Travelling by road

It is anticipated that given the high number of spectators attending The 146th Open at Royal Birkdale, the surrounding road network will be busy. To ensure the best possible flow of traffic, the local roads authorities and police are urging all motorists to use the designated traffic routes, which will be clearly signed by The AA. Spectators are advised to turn off their satellite navigation systems and follow the appropriate signage.

Please note that there is no parking available at the course. Please follow signs for Public Parking.

From the North: Exit the M6 at junction 29, turn right onto the A6 then follow signs for the A582 (Blackpool). Turn left at the traffic light junction on A582 (Penwortham Way) onto Chain House Lane towards A59. Follow signs onto A59 and A565 to Southport. On entering Southport at Plough Lane roundabout turn right onto Marine Drive and follow signs to the car park.

From the South: Exit the M6 at junction 26 Orrell, turn left onto M58. Leave M58 at junction 3 turning right onto A570 Southport / Ormskirk. Follow signs to the car park.

From the East – Manchester: Exit the M62 at junction 6 turning right onto the M57 (Southport). Continue to junction 7 and turn right onto A59(N). Continue along A59(N) and follow signs to turn left onto A5147 (Southport). Follow signs to the car park.

From North Wales and the Wirral: Follow the M56, M6 North and travel onto the M58 at junction 26 (Orrell). Leave M58 at junction 3 turning right onto A570 Southport / Ormskirk. Follow signs to the car park.

From Liverpool: Follow A565 to Southport and follow signs to the car park.

Using the Park & Ride

All public parking will be located at Park & Ride facilities, which transport motorists to and from the course on dedicated buses. Spectators are urged to use these facilities to minimise disruption to local traffic and ensure the fastest possible transfer to and from The 146th Open. If you have purchased parking in advance please follow the information provided within your ticket pack. Please note you may also be provided with a reserved car park coloured label, in that case please follow signs to that coloured label car park.

Car and Motorbike Parking

Daily Public Car Parking, payable in advance or on arrival, will cost £10.00 from Sunday 16 to Tuesday 18 July and £15.00 from Wednesday 19 to Sunday 23 July.  A limited number of Weekly Car Park passes are available at a cost of £60.00. Weekly passes are only available in advance from TheOpen.com or The Open Ticket Office (01334 460010). Motorbike parking is available at a cost of £5 per day. All public parking is located at Park and Ride facilities.

Coach parking

Vehicles exceeding 8 meters in length and/or a seat capacity greater than 22 seats will be charged £40 per day and are asked to park in the Coach Park.

 

Mini Bus Parking

Vehicles measuring between 5 meters and 7.99 meters in length and/or a seat capacity between 10 and 22 seats will be charged £25 per day and are asked to park in the Coach Park.

Spectators with Disabilities

Spectators with mobility impairments who intend to purchase tickets in advance or on the day at the gates are advised to telephone The Open Ticket Office (01334 460000).
