McIlroy seeks third Wells Fargo title at Quail Hollow
Six Champion Golfers will take to the course at Quail Hollow, with Rory McIlroy leading the charge as he goes in search for his third Wells Fargo Championship win.
The 2014 Champion Golfer of the Year headlines a field that also contains Phil Mickelson, Champion Golfer at Muirfield in 2013, a resurgent Tiger Woods, as well as Stewart Cink, Ernie Els and Louis Oosthuizen.
Masters Champion Patrick Reed and runner-up Rickie Fowler also competing at the Championship that features no shortage of major champions and in-form players.
McIlroy returns to scene of first PGA win
Back in 2010, a fresh-faced Rory McIlroy became the youngest man to win a PGA Tour event since Tiger Woods and announced himself as a worldwide golfing superstar.
Five years later, the Northern Irishman bagged a second win at Quail Hollow, setting a course record of 61 and shooting 21 under par to emerge victorious by seven strokes.
Despite his disappointment at Augusta, McIlroy will be one to watch at Quail Hollow as he goes in hunt of his second victory of the season.
Quail Hollow return for PGA Champion Thomas
The Wells Fargo Championship moved to Eagle Point Golf Club in 2017 due to Quail Hollow playing hosting to the PGA Championship in August. Current FedEx Cup leader Justin Thomas won the the fourth and final major of 2017 and will fancy his chances on a course where he has produced three sub-70 rounds in his last three outings.
Open Champions out in force
Eyes will undoubtedly be on Tiger Woods after the 14-time major winner returned to the game this season, finishing in the top five twice in succession ahead of the Masters. Woods lifted the Claret Jug in 2000, 2005 and 2006, and is in his best form for years following a succession of injury troubles. This week marks his first outing since the Masters as he joins the 2009 Champion Golfer Stewart Cink and South African Champion Golfers Louis Oosthuizen (2010) and Ernie Els (2002 & 2012).
