Muirhead and Shiels Carnoustie-bound with The Open's social media team
An Olympic medallist and the UK’s leading online golf personality will be integral members of our coverage at Carnoustie later this month, as Eve Muirhead and Rick Shiels have been announced as part of The Open’s social media team.
Muirhead – who was skip when Team GB’s female curlers won bronze at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi – and YouTube sensation Shiels will offer their unique insight at The 147th Open Championship from July 15-22.
The famed Angus links always provide incredible drama – from Ben Hogan, Gary Player and Tom Watson’s greatness steering them to glory, to Jean van de Velde clambering into the Barry Burn in 1999 and Padraig Harrington memorably lifting the Claret Jug 11 years ago.
Rick and Eve will be there every step of the way in 2018, giving fans behind-the-scenes access to Open week, as well as providing features on the players and the course.
In addition to her Olympic curling bronze medal, two European golds and one World Championship success back in 2013, Perth-born Muirhead is also a category one golfer and has previously worked for BBC Radio at The Scottish Open.
Meanwhile, with more than 325,000 subscribers and over 4.25million views per month, Rick Shiels Golf is the world’s largest solo-hosted golf channel on YouTube and has this year partnered with The Open in creating the exciting Carnoustie Challenges series.
