Only one stroke away from a top-10 finish at St Andrews last year, but after switching to the LIV Golf tour he had to wait until the end of May to secure his place at Hoylake as part of the world’s top 50.

A five-stroke winner of the 2018 Emirates Australian Open, where three spots were available in the Open Qualifying Series. A week later partnered Roberto Diaz as Mexico achieved their best-ever World Cup result, joint second behind Belgians Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry.

Another runner-up finish at the 2019 Northern Trust led to automatic selection for the International side at the Presidents Cup, where he was one of Ernie Els’s star performers with 3 ½ points out of four before losing the top singles to Tiger Woods. Made his Open debut at Carnoustie in 2018 thanks to a joint fourth place at the Quicken Loans National.

Born in Texas, but raised in Mexico and has dual citizenship. Finished joint second in the Junior College national championship while at Odessa College and after moving to the University of Oklahoma won twice.

Claimed his first PGA Tour win at the 2021 WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational with a second play-off hole birdie against Hideki Matsuyama and Sam Burns and in February added the Asian Tour’s PIF Saudi International.
