In easily the best major performance of his career so far, Kisner was one of four players to tie for second place behind Francesco Molinari in the 2018 Open at Carnoustie, having led the field either solely or jointly after each of the first three rounds.

Following three play-off defeats in 2015, including one at the Players Championship, he was a runner-up again that November behind Scotland’s Russell Knox at the WGC-HSBC Champions in China, but two weeks later he finally broke his PGA Tour duck with a commanding six-stroke victory at the RSM Classic, moving into the sport's top 20.

In 2017 he won again at the Dean & Deluca Invitational, which led to a Presidents Cup debut at the age of 33. He was unbeaten in America’s victory and in 2019 he won the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship, beating Molinari in the semi-finals and Matt Kuchar in the final. Kisner was the runner-up in the same event the year before and again this March.

Last August he won a six-man play-off at the Wyndham Championship. He qualified for St Andrews as one of the leading non-exempt players on the world rankings in late May.
