The season also included a joint runner-up finish in the DP Tour World Championship and his Open Championship debut, although he left it late to grab a spot. Victory in the BMW International Open in Germany in June made him one of the four players to earn a Carnoustie start off the European Tour rankings the same day. Maiden victory on the circuit came at the 2017 Portuguese Open on what was only his fourth event at that level – he did not even have full membership at the time.

He then defeated compatriot Andrew Johnston in a play-off for the Hero Indian Open and in September captured the Made in Denmark title as well, also in sudden death after he had tied with Lee Westwood, Steven Brown and Jonathan Thomson.

Turned professional in 2012 and on the Alps mini-tour registered an incredible five successive wins and six in all in 2016. Tied for 19th on his first appearance at the PGA Championship last August and was runner-up to Bryson DeChambeau in Dubai in January.
