Older brother Alejandro won the 2002 Amateur Championship and played in The Open at Muirfield that year, but it is Pablo who has made his mark on the professional game.

He is now a nine-time winner on the DP World Tour, two of them coming last season and two more this year, first the Korea Championship and then the KLM Open just after his 40th birthday in May.

Larrazabal was a qualifier for the 2008 French Open and ranked 482nd in the game at the time, but he beat former world No.2 Colin Montgomerie by four. That helped him become Rookie of the Year and his next success in the 2011 BMW International Open was achieved with a birdie of the fifth extra hole of a play-off against compatriot Sergio Garcia.

There was another three-year gap before he triumphed again, this time at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship with Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson a stroke behind.

And when he lifted the BMW International Open again in 2015 it was another Open champion, Henrik Stenson, a shot back.
