The Open Qualifying Series South Africa

The South African Open hosted by The City of Johannesburg replaces the Joburg Open following a merger of the two events. Played at Randpark, Johannesburg from 6-9 December 2018, it is the second event in The Open Qualifying Series 2019.

Three qualifying places are up for grabs in the tri sanctioned event by the Sunshine Tour, the European Tour and Asian Tour. The names engraved on the famous South African Open trophy include Vijay Singh, Ernie Els, Trevor Immelman, Retief Goosen and Henrik Stenson.

Six players in the field are currently exempt - Ernie Els, Shaun Norris, Louis Oosthuizen, Dimitrios Papadatos, Brandon Stone and Matt Wallace.

In 2018 the 3 spots for Royal Portrush were taken by Romain Langasque, Charl Schwartzel and Oliver Wilson. 2010 Champion Golfer Louis Oosthuizen won the event by four shots to become the third Champion Golfer to have won both The Open and the South African Open.
