The Open App FAQs

What videos can I watch and when?

Video on Demand and Highlights are available globally for all our fans regardless of location. However, you may see more or fewer live video streams in your app than fans in other countries. This is because the video content available to you depends on which coverage of The Open is available on television in your location. The best way to ensure you see the correct streams is to enable Location Services when you’re asked to do so in the Media section. If you have previously said no when asked to enable location services in the app, you can turn these on later via the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.

Are The Open radio and video streams free?

Yes - you can watch live streams, Video On Demand and high-lights for free. Some of the videos on the App are exclusively provided by The One Club and you’ll need to tell us your name and email address before you can access them. You only need to do this one per device.

What do I need to enable to make the most of the app?

To ensure you have access to up-to-date information, scoring and streams, and can navigate around the course (if you are at-tending), we recommend that you give the app access to Location Services and to send you Push Notifications.

The app is showing me the wrong local time on Tee Times. How do I change it?

For The Open fans outside of the British Summertime timezone, the app will display a local time alongside the tee times in BST. The app determines your local timezone by referencing the time settings on your phone. To ensure this works correctly, check that your device clock displays the correct time for your location. If not, you may edit your Time Zone in your device’s Settings App, under “General” > “Date & Time.” If you are in the UK or at The Open, you will not see an additional timezone displayed in the Tee Times screen.

Why do I see different favourite players on different devices?

Marking players as a favourite (by toggling the star icon next to their name) is a great way to ensure you can quickly see their scores and tee times across the app. For the time being, the players you select as favourites only apply to the device where you selected them. This means that if you use the app on an iPhone, and iPad (and/or favourite players on TheOpen.com), you need to mark your players separately on each.

My sound isn't working when I listen to video / radio. What should I do?

Please check that your device isn’t set to silent mode. You can do this by checking the switch on the top left side of your iPhone hardware and some iPads, or by opening the Control Centre by swiping from the edge of newer iPad screens and checking that the Silent Mode button (represented with a bell) doesn’t have a line through it. Then, ensure your device volume is high enough to hear sound - if it isn’t, you may not hear sound in any other app.

How do I know when live streams are going to be on?

Live video streams - such as the Three Hole Channel and Featured Group - will be live intermittently throughout the Championship. Navigate to the Media tab on your app to find the time of the next stream.

How can I find facilities at The Open?

You can find facilities such as grandstands, tented villages, food& drink facilities, restrooms, etc. by navigating to the Course Guide tab and selecting “At The Course.” You can also use the app to find the best route to navigate to these points of inter-est. Please allow time to arrive at various locations as your route may be temporarily restricted while golfers are at play.

I'm at The Open but my location isn't shown on the Course Guide.

The app requires permission to use your phone’s location services. You can do this by opening the Course Guide and selecting “At the Course” and then agreeing to the permission re-quest in the pop up that appears on your screen. This would give the app the ability to understand where you are and dis-play your location on the map. We don’t share your location
with anyone else. If you have previously said no when asked to enable location services in the app, you can turn these on later via the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.

What kinds of push notifications will I get?

During The Open Championship, we send notifications to help fans stay up to date with scoring, current leaders, radio and video stream schedules, and much more. The rest of the year, you can expect information about ticket sales, special events and seasonal promotions.

Is the app only for people who are attending The Open?

We’ve built The Open App to enable golf fans all over the world to follow The Open. Many fans in the USA, Japan, and Europe use the app as well as attendees at The Open. You don’t need a ticket to The Open to use the app.

How can I request an app feature?

We receive many great feature requests and suggestions from golf spectators. If you have a suggestion or request, please let us know via the App Support option on the Info screen within the app and select “provide feedback."

My friend has an Android app, why do they see some-thing different?

The iOS App (on iPhone and iPad) is built specifically for the App Store. Fans of The Open with Android devices can still download an app from the Google Play Store which can be saved to their home screen and be used as a shortcut to view the full website on TheOpen.com.

Is the app available in different languages?

For now, The Open app is only available in English. However, the official Rules of Golf app is available in many different languages.

I have a technical problem that’s not mentioned here. What should I do?

Please let us know via the App Support option on the Info screen within the app and select “Problem Using the App.” We aim to reply to all requests received during The Open Championship but it may take a little while to hear from us.
