Golf Saved My Life

The very best players in the world are teeing it up at The 148th Open but golf can have a profound impact on the lives of so many people.

Stewart Harris, a veteran of the 1st Battalion of the Welsh Guards, joined the army at 17 and during his military career saw action in Bosnia, Iraq, Kosovo and Afghanistan.

It was in Afghanistan that an IED went off underneath the vehicle he was in and left him blind in his right eye, partially blind in the left, deaf in his right ear and partially deaf in the left.

The Welshman then reached a low point when he tried to take his own life but from there, he slowly began to turn his life around and credits the sport of golf as a major part of his recovery
