Lee, Mitchell and Dahmen Qualify for The 149th Open

The Open Qualifying Series USA

Danny Lee, Keith Mitchell and Joel Dahmen qualified for The 149th Open at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard.

All three players battled over the weekend at Bay Hill to secure their spot at Royal St George's this summer, in some of the most testing conditions seen in recent years on the PGA Tour.

Lee celebrated his qualification with his son Roi after a grinding final round of 75, which included a brilliant up and down on the 71st hole.

The 29-year-old, who famously won on the European Tour as an amateur in 2009, has played in two previous Open Championships, missing the cut both times in 2015 and 2016.

Lee will be trying to follow in the footsteps of the most recent Champion Golfer of the Year Shane Lowry, who coincidentally also won as an amateur on the European Tour in 2009.

After qualifying for The 148th Open last year at this event, history repeated itself for Keith Mitchell. The 28-year-old produced a stunning finish to claim his spot, holing a ten-footer for birdie on the 72nd hole when he needed it most.

The American, who won on the the PGA Tour a year ago last week, missed the cut in his first Open at Royal Portrush. With Championship experience under his belt however, Mitchell will be hoping to play his first weekend at The Open this time around.

Another player with experience of Royal Portrush is Joel Dahmen, who was absolutely thrilled to be heading to Royal St Georges this year.

Like Mitchell, the 32-year-old American played in his first Open Championship last year. Despite missing the cut however, Dahmen has great memories of the event.

“It's a goal every year to play in The Open,” Dahmen said after his round. “Last year was my first Open and it was probably one of the best events I’ve ever played in. It was the most fun.”

The next Open Qualifying Series event will be from 28th-31st May at the Mizuno Open in Japan.
