After winning his first European Tour title at the 229th attempt in the 2019 Hassan Trophy, Campillo added his second in 2020 at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, beating David Drysdale at the fifth play-off hole, and then the third last season in the Magical Kenya Open, where he finished 63-66 to take the title by two.

He almost claimed a fourth at October’s Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, but lost a play-off to Sami Valimaki. Played the first major of his life at Carnoustie in 2018 aged 32, nine years after turning professional.

Qualified as one of the leading non-exempt players on the DP World Tour money list a month before the Championship. He was ranked as Spain’s No 1 amateur for six years, winning his national title in 2008, and while at Indiana University won nine events and was named among America’s top college players.

In 2008, Campillo represented Continental Europe against Britain and Ireland in the St Andrews Trophy and Spain at the World Amateur Team Championship, then on only his fifth start as a Tour member tied for second at the Avantha Masters in India.
