A left-hander just like his fellow Scot and mentor Robert MacIntyre, Cameron Adam earned his Royal Portrush place as winner of the Open Amateur Series.
This is awarded to the player who does best across the St Andrews Links Trophy, The Amateur Championship and European Amateur.
In the first of those he won at the Home of Golf after a play-off with Ireland’s John Doyle. Having started with rounds of 68 and 64, he was overtaken by Doyle’s closing 65, but birdied the last and lifted the trophy after a par on the first extra hole.
Failing to make it into the match play stages of The Amateur Championship was a disappointment, but a week later the world’s 34th-ranked amateur tied for ninth at the European event in Sweden.
Born in Edinburgh, but based in Fife, Adam is a member of Royal Burgess – the oldest golf club in the world – and has studied at Northwestern University in Chicago.
He became Scottish amateur champion two years ago, breaking the course records at both Royal Dornoch and Tain with back-to-back 63s in the stroke play qualifying.
