The 28-year-old claimed the fifth and last place in the 36-hole Final Qualifying competition at Burnham and Berrow in Somerset on 1 July. Back-to-back 68s saw him squeeze through on six under par, one ahead of Anirban Lahiri, twice a winner on the DP World Tour in 2015 and joint fifth in the PGA Championship that same season.
Worcester-based Farrell went into the event ranked 1,480th in the world, but has been working with a new sports psychologist this year and the qualifier was one of the tournaments they targeted.
He has been playing solely on the third tier Clutch Tour this season and has won four times there since turning professional in 2020 after attending Marquette University in Wisconsin.
Has also appeared on the DP World Tour five times and on the second level HotelPlanner – formerly Challenge – circuit on nearly 50 occasions, with two top 10 finishes.
