Gary Woodland

Missed out on an exemption spot for Royal Birkdale in 2017 by just one stroke with his tie for 12th at Royal Troon, but then secured his place by qualifying for the season-ending Tour Championship and has done the same the last two years.

Switched his focus from basketball to golf at college and turned professional in 2007. One of the game’s biggest hitters, he lifted the World Cup alongside Matt Kuchar in China in 2011, the same year in which his maiden PGA Tour success came at the Transitions Championship.

Then added the 2013 Reno-Tahoe Open to his trophy cabinet and has also lost play-offs in the 2011 Bob Hope Classic and 2014 CIMB Classic, as well as reaching the final of the 2015 WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship before losing to Rory McIlroy.

Since then has had further second places at 2016 Barracuda Championship and OHL Classic and 2017 Honda Classic, reaching a career-high 24th in the world.
