Tony Finau

He was joint-18th in his maiden Open at Royal Troon in 2016, while in his first two majors the previous season he finished 14th at the US Open and tenth at the PGA Championship.

In 2016, Finau landed the Puerto Rico Open following a play-off with Steve Marino and that October he came close at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai, losing at the first extra hole to Xander Schauffele.

He had scholarship offers in basketball but turned professional aged 17 in 2007 and played mini-circuits before earning a PGA Tour card through the Web.com Tour.

Finau is of Tongan and Samoan descent and is the first person from such a background to make it onto the PGA Tour.

He received the last of Jim Furyk’s four wildcards for the Ryder Cup in September 2018, winning the opening fourball match alongside Brooks Koepka and finishing in style as well with a 6&4 victory over previously unbeaten Tommy Fleetwood.
