The South African Open hosted by The City of Johannesburg returns was played at Randpark, Johannesburg from 9-12 January 2020, and was the second event in The Open Qualifying Series for The 149th Open.
2019 winner Louis Oosthuizen put up an excellent defence of his title, but the a brilliant Sunday 62 from his compatriot Branden Grace saw him win the title. Grace grabbed the first qualifying spot for The 149th Open, and with Oosthuizen already exempt, there was a 3 man battle for the remaining 2 spots.
Jack Senior was very unfortunate to miss out by just 8 world ranking places from Jaco Ahlers, but the real drama came at the 72nd hole, when Marcus Armitage holed a dramatic birdie putt to leapfrog Senior and Ahlers, moving to 16 under par and clinching his place at Royal St George's.
