Tiger Woods will make his first competitive start of the 2018 season at Torrey Pines on Thursday.

He joins former Champion Golfers Phil Mickelson, Stewart Cink and Padraig Harrington in a strong field north of San Diego along with Jason Day, Justin Rose and Rickie Fowler.

Woods has achieved victory at La Jolla on eight occasions, including the US Open in 2008 – his last major success. He holds a tally of 14 major championships and has spoken about building his 2018 schedule around the majors.

At the end of 2017, the three-time Champion Golfer of the Year, spoke about returning to Carnoustie in July for The 147th Open.

“I recall making just one birdie on the weekend and finished just three or four out the play-off,” said Woods reflecting on The Open in 1999.

“Carnoustie can be a brutal golf course and it was brutal that year,” he added. “It’s just so tough, but it’s all there in front of you. There are no tricks, there’s nothing hidden. It’s just come and get me.”

“I won two of my Open Championship’s in Scotland, and the other one in England so let’s try and add another one in there,” said Woods.
