The 148th Open is already off to a wild and raucous start at Royal Portrush, thanks, in part, to Emiliano Grillo's performance at the par-3 13th.
The first ace of the week on Royal Portrush's Dunluce Links was recorded Thursday morning before lunchtime.
Emiliano Grillo approached the 13th tee at 2-over after early struggles that included a triple-bogey at 5 and bogeys at Nos. 6 and 9. But then his luck changed.
From 200 yards, playing downhill, Grillo flew his shot to the middle left side of the green and watched it take the slope and funnel directly into the back left hole location.
This was the first hole-in-one recorded in an Open since 2016.
