Royal Troon 2023 The Open

The 152nd Open will be played at Royal Troon from 16-23 July 2023.

A century after hosting golf’s original major for the first time, the battle for the Claret Jug will return to Royal Troon in 2023 for The 152nd Open.

The famed links course in South Ayrshire will play host to its 10th Open, celebrating 100 years since the Championship first came to Troon in 1923.

The last time The Open was held at Royal Troon was in 2016, when Henrik Stenson triumphed over Phil Mickelson in a head to head battle for the ages. Both players played magnificent golf all week, producing record scores to par during an unforgettable event.

With his win in 2016, Stenson became a member of an exclusive club of Royal Troon Open winners, all of whom winning their titles in memorable style over the past century.

“ We are very much looking forward to celebrating another milestone in the cherished history of The Open when we mark the 100th anniversary of the Championship first being played at Royal Troon.” Martin Slumbers, Chief Executive of the R&A

The Swede joined Arthur Havers, Bobby Locke, Arnold Palmer, Tom Weiskopf, Tom Watson, Mark Calcavecchia, Justin Leonard and Todd Hamilton as Open champions on this classic course.

The world’s best golfers will all be vying for a chance to join that illustrious list in 2023, as they look to write their own piece of history and become Champion Golfer of the Year.

“We are delighted to welcome the return of the world's oldest major championship to Royal Troon and regard this as confirmation of the wonderful condition to which our historic links are maintained. The 152nd Open will also provide an excellent opportunity to celebrate 100 years of the Championship's history at Royal Troon which commenced with Arthur Havers' victory in 1923.” Captain of Royal Troon, Des Bancewicz

In addition to the excitement, drama and history made on the course, the commercial success of The Open is also considerable. The revenue from the event helps grow the game of golf worldwide, with economic benefits of the event reaching everywhere from local communities to the far corners of the world.

Public Health Minister Joe FitzPatrick said: “The Open is important to Scotland economically, culturally and reputationally, and Royal Troon is one of our finest and most prestigious courses.”

“The last time The Open was played there in 2016 proved highly successful with £110 million worth of benefits to Scotland.”

The 152nd Open will be played from 16-23 July 2023.

You can still be at The Open this year, with limited tickets and hospitality remaining for The 149th Open at Royal St George's.
