The 149th Open Royal St George's

An Amazing Grace Coincidence?

Will South African play with another Champion Golfer?

Shane Lowry and Branden Grace at the 148th Open

Jordan Spieth and Bryson DeChambeau may be more interested than most in a curious statistic relating to the last two Champion Golfers at The Open.

In 2018 and 2019, the men who went on to lift the Claret Jug on Sunday – Francesco Molinari and Shane Lowry - played with Branden Grace in rounds one and two.

Intriguingly, Grace will now go out alongside two of the leading contenders at Royal St George’s, having been grouped with Spieth and DeChambeau in the draw that was announced on Tuesday.

The trio are due to tee off at 9:25am in Thursday’s opening round, before resuming their respective bids for glory from 2:26pm on Friday.

Spieth famously won the most recent Open to be staged in England, at Royal Birkdale in 2017, while Grace also made history in that very Championship.

The South African posted the first 62 in major history during round three, a sensational score that helped him to a tie for sixth.

You can view all of the tee times for rounds one and two here.

Grace, Spieth and DeChambeau will be among the players being shown as part of our featured group coverage, available live at www.theopen.com/watch for members of The One Club.
