Major champions Jason Day and Lucas Glover are among the players now exempt for The 153rd Open courtesy of their position in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).

The top 50 for Week 21 of 2025 automatically qualify for this summer’s Championship and, while the majority of those had already booked their place through other routes, there are 18 players who can only now be confirmed for Royal Portrush.

Min Woo Lee, who enjoyed his first win on the PGA Tour earlier this year, and top-20 players Maverick McNealy and Harris English are also among those newly exempt.

The full list is as follows: Maverick McNealy, Harris English, Ben Griffin, JJ Spaun, Daniel Berger, Min Woo Lee, Thomas Detry, Andrew Novak, JT Poston, Jason Day, Lucas Glover, Denny McCarthy, Nick Taylor, Tom Kim, Max Greyserman, Stephan Jaeger, Mackenzie Hughes, Jhonattan Vegas.

Day, a former world No 1, won his first major at the PGA Championship in 2015 and will be competing at his 13th Open this summer, having recorded two top-five finishes to date.

He was joint runner-up at Royal Liverpool in 2023 and T4 at St Andrews ten years ago. At The 152nd Open last year he finished in a tie for 13th.

Glover, the 2009 US Open champion, will be playing in his 12th Open, with his best finish to date coming at Royal St George’s in 2011 where he was T12.
