Debutant ready to get creative

Mason Andersen, who will make his Open debut at Royal Troon in 2024

Mason Andersen cannot wait to embrace the challenge of unfamiliar conditions in his Open debut at Royal Troon this July.

The 25-year-old currently leads the Korn Ferry Tour’s Points List and earned his spot in The 152nd Open with victory in February’s 117 Visa Argentina Open presented by Macro.

Andersen’s experience of links golf is minimal, but the Arizona State University alumni is captivated by the prospect of taking on Troon.

“It’s definitely exciting,” said Andersen in an interview with the new One Club website.

“I played The Amateur Championship in 2018 at Royal Aberdeen and I thought it was great.

“It’s definitely a different type of golf; it’s unique. It’s more creativity, weird shots you never thought you’d hit, and obviously the weather plays a huge role.

“I think it’s pretty easy to get tired of the mundane. I’ve played so much golf and I’ve played so much of the same golf. I really look forward to The Open and playing something different.

“The ability to chip off tight lies, the ability to hit something really low off the tee, the ability to take two clubs more and chip it – it’s stuff like that I’ll be practicing.”
