Jordan Spieth on Royal Birkdale

Royal Birkdale has been confirmed as the host venue for The 154th Open, meaning it will welcome golf's original Championship in 2026 - nine years on from its last staging.

The Open of 2017 produced a truly remarkable finale, with the events of the closing holes ranking among the most dramatic in the Championship's rich history.

Jordan Spieth was the central figure as the long-time leader found himself in all sorts of trouble on the par-4 13th and took a dramatic drop on the practice ground before eventually rescuing what proved to be a brilliant bogey.

You can relive how all the drama unfolded via the video player below.

Incredibly, Spieth went on to pick up five shots over his next four holes, sealing the Claret Jug in style with a finish for the ages.
