Lost a play-off to Emiliano Grillo in the Charles Schwab Challenge at the end of May. Victory could have taken him into the game’s top 50 just in time to earn an exemption for Royal Liverpool, but he had to wait only seven days to clinch his debut.

Three places were up for grabs at the Memorial Tournament as part of The Open Qualifying Series and Schenk’s joint-seventh finish was good enough with winner Viktor Hovland, Denny McCarthy, Scottie Scheffler, Si-woo Kim and Jordan Spieth already exempt.

He was also a runner-up at the Valspar Championship in March, Taylor Moore beating him by a single stroke, and has really made his presence felt after not even being in the world’s leading 180 in January.

Schenk initially played on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica and Web.com Tour after turning professional in 2015, then led with a round to play at both the 2021 Shriners Children’s Open and this season’s Valspar.

On his first two major championship appearances last year he tied for 24th at the US Open and 41st at the PGA.
