Won the 36-hole Final Qualifying competition at Notts Hollinwell on July 2, carding rounds of 69 and 67 to finish a stroke ahead of English amateur champion Thomas Thurloway.

A former England international himself he said: “It means the world to me to play in The Open. It's awesome - I’ve only been a pro for six months, so it’s a big achievement for me and something I’m sure I’m going to get a lot from." Went straight on a EuroPro Tour event at Morpeth and won it by one. He also had a runner-up finish on that circuit in May, but Royal Portrush will be his European Tour debut and he has appeared in only one Challenge Tour event, finishing joint 23rd in the Bridgestone Challenge in Luton last year won by Tom Lewis. Went into the qualifier ranked 1,315th in the world.
