Frazer Jones

Leicester-born Frazer Jones qualified for The 153rd Open by coming through 36-hole Final Qualifying on Tuesday 1 July.

Leicester-born Frazer Jones qualified for The 153rd Open by coming through 36-hole Final Qualifying.

With his father acting as his caddie at Burnham & Berrow in Somerset, rounds of 69 and 66 – the second of them containing four successive birdies – was enough to secure his spot.

Jones grew up watching Rory McIlroy and said he aims to do his best to get close to him on the driving range at Royal Portrush.

Another product of the same college was Conor Gough – winner of the Boys Amateur Championship at Portrush in 2018 – and Jones planned to make contact for some advice on playing the course.

He competed in four tournaments during the 2024-25 season in the States and played a pivotal role in the AAC Championship and NCAA Regionals. At the Bremerton Regional, Jones was the second-place finisher for Charlotte behind another FQ qualifier, Sebastian Cave.

Jones was also part of the England Boys squad in 2023 – the year after he captured the Midlands boys title – and collected five out of six points in the home internationals.
