Graeme McDowell

McDowell-Graeme
Would have really hurt if he had not been part of the action in Portrush, the place where he grew up and learnt the game, but his place was secured only on June 9 with an eighth place finish at the RBC Canadian Open.
Would have really hurt if he had not been part of the action in Portrush, the place where he grew up and learnt the game, but his place was secured only on June 9 with an eighth place finish at the RBC Canadian Open.

Only three spots in The Open were available as part of the Qualifying Series, but six of the seven ahead of him - including runaway winner Rory McIlroy and joint runner-up Shane Lowry, his fellow Irishmen - were already exempt. Best remembered for what he achieved in 2010 when he ended a 40-year European drought at the United States Open by triumphing at Pebble Beach, then holed the match-winning putt in the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor.

Has 10 European Tour titles and four PGA Tour victories, most recently in March after his world ranking had fallen from a high of fourth in 2011 to 257th. Has been a part of four Ryder Cup sides and helped Britain and Ireland’s amateurs win the Walker Cup on American soil in 2001. Two years after Pebble Beach he tied for second back at the US Open and then was joint fifth in The Open.
