Jack Whaley

In a remarkable few weeks Jack Whaley claimed the US Amateur Championship before helping Great Britain and Ireland win the Walker Cup for the first time in more than a decade.

His thrilling victory at Merion in August saw him become only the third Englishman to win the coveted amateur title, and brought with it an exemption for The 155th Open at St Andrews.

Whaley, a Florida State University senior, defeated American Jay Leng Jr 4&3 in the 36-hole final.

Just three weeks after his US Amateur success, he was at Lahinch helping Dean Robertson's GB&I Walker Cup side to a historic victory over the USA.

He defeated William Jennings 8&7 during a stunning singles performance on Sunday afternoon as the home side battled to a 13½ - 12½ triumph.
