Michael Thorbjornsen

Michael Thorbjornsen secured his Open debut the Sunday before the championship as one of the leading three finishers not already exempt at the Genesis Scottish Open, the final event of the Open Qualifying Series.

A share of seventh place at the Renaissance Club was enough for the American, with five of the six players above him on the leaderboard already in the field for Royal Birkdale.

Thorbjornsen's outstanding amateur career included victory in the 2018 US Junior Amateur, multiple US Open appearances and a fourth-place finish on the PGA TOUR in 2022 at the Travelers Championship.

In his third PGA TOUR start as a professional he was second in the 2024 John Deere Classic, while he was also the runner-up at last year's Corales Puntacana Championship.
