Sami Valimaki

Returns to The Open for the third time in four years, having also featured at Royal Liverpool in 2023 and Royal Troon 12 months later.

Since his last Open appearance, Valimaki has made history as the first Finn to win on the PGA TOUR. That honour was secured in November 2025 as he triumphed at the RSM Classic.

He had already won twice on the DP World Tour, his first success coming at the Oman Open in only the fifth start of his rookie season in 2020. He went on to be named the circuit's rookie of the year.

A second title came Valimaki's way in October 2023 when he beat Jorge Campillo in a play-off to win the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. 

A member of the Finland side which won the 2018 European Amateur Team Championships, Valimaki also represented them in that year’s Eisenhower Trophy World Championship and played for Continental Europe as they beat Great Britain and Ireland at the St Andrews Trophy.

Having reached as high as 10th on the world amateur rankings, he turned professional the following season on completing his military service and before the end of the year had won four times on the ProGolf circuit and once on the Finnish Tour.
