The Open Qualifying Series New Zealand
Lucas Herbert claimed the sole qualifying spot on offer at the 105th New Zealand Open presented by Millbrook Resort.
The Australian's second placed finish at the event, two shots behind winner Daniel Hillier, was enough to seal his spot at Royal Birkdale, where he will compete in The Open for the sixth time.
The qualifying place went to the highest placed finisher not already exempt for the Championship, with Hillier having already qualified courtesy of his place in the top 25 in the final Race to Dubai rankings.
Herbert's best Open result came at St Andrews in 2022 when he ended the week T15. He made his Open debut at Carnoustie in 2018, and played at Royal Portrush in 2025 after progressing through Final Qualifying.
Qualification for The 154th Open can be earned through a number of different pathways open to golfers across the globe, with the New Zealand Open part of the Open Qualifying Series (OQS).
Herbert is one of five players to qualify for The Open this weekend, with a further three qualifying spots on offer at the Investec South African Open Championship, and another at the 119 Visa Argentina Open presented by Macro.
