Marco Penge qualified for The 154th Open after victory at the Open de España presented by Madrid.
The Englishman defeated Daniel Brown in a play-off to win the DP World Tour event at Club de Camp Villa, Madrid.
Brown birdied three of his final six holes to reach 15-under-par and force the play-off, however Penge responded with a birdie of his own on the first extra hole and that was enough for the win.
The victory saw him claim the one Royal Birkdale place on offer as part of The Open Qualifying Series (OQS) and secure his fourth appearance at golf’s original championship.
In 2024 Angel Hidalgo won the Open de España after defeating three-time winner Jon Rahm in a play-off. Champion Golfers Francesco Molinari, Padraig Harrington and Seve Ballesteros are among the other previous victors.
Qualification for The 154th Open can be earned through a number of different pathways open to golfers across the globe.
The Japan Open Golf Championship presents the next opportunity through OQS, with one place available at the event which runs from 16 to 19 October.
