JT Poston won the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday to qualify for The 154th Open at Royal Birkdale.

The American – who had led by four strokes – was trailing Ryan Gerard by one as he approached the 72nd hole at Muirfield Village.

He then launched an 8-iron into the green which spun to within 7-feet of the pin and duly landed the birdie putt to force a play-off, in which he triumphed at the second extra hole.
“I’m not a quitter,” was how Poston summarised his victory.

He will now prepare for his fifth consecutive appearance at The Open, having made his debut at St Andrews in 2022.
