Makings of a Champion Golfer

From a very young age Tiger Woods played to win. A burning desire to be the best and beat the game of golf drove him to become one of the most successful golfers of all time. Tiger would go on to lift the Claret Jug 3 times.

Tiger Woods - five of the best

The only man in golf history to hold all four majors at the same time. In 2000, Tiger Woods won the US Open by 15 shots, The Open by eight with a record 19 under par at St Andrews, added the PGA Championship and completed his clean sweep at the following year's Masters.

By 2008 he had taken his major haul to 14, second to Jack Nicklaus's 18, and after four back operations and a slump down the world rankings to 1,199th he was on course for a 15th crown at Carnoustie in 2018 when he led with eight holes to go.

Although he slipped to joint sixth, it was his best showing in any major since 2013 and two months later his 80th PGA Tour title – second only to Sam Snead – came at the Tour Championship, followed a week later by his first Ryder Cup since 2012.

His first major victory, the 1997 Masters, was achieved by a record 12 shots when he was only 21, while he has twice won The Open at St Andrews and once at Hoylake.

His 18 World Golf Championships wins and 683 weeks as world No.1 as of the end of 2018 remain in a league of their own.
