The 148th Open is already off to a wild and raucous start at Royal Portrush thanks, in part, to Emiliano Grillo's performance at the par-3 13th.
The first ace of the week on Royal Portrush's Dunluce Links was recorded Thursday morning before lunchtime.
Argentine Grillo approached the 13th tee at two-over after early struggles that included a triple bogey at 5 and bogeys at the 6th and 9th. But then his luck changed.
From 200 yards, playing downhill, Grillo flew his shot to the middle left side of the green and watched it take the slope and funnel directly into the back-left hole location.
It was the first hole-in-one recorded in an Open since 2016, when Louis Oosthuizen produced an ace.
