The Man in the Arena

Jordan Spieth at Royal Birkdale in 2017

The time has almost come for the best players in the world to step into the Open arena for a landmark Championship at the Old Course.

One man who will be relishing the task in The 150th Open is Jordan Spieth. Having narrowly missed out on a play-off at St Andrews in 2015, the Champion Golfer of 2017 will once again look to thrive on the biggest stage.

The latest and final film in our series ‘The Journey, in partnership with Rolex’ features Spieth as the narrator. His script is an adaptation of the famous Theodore Roosevelt speech “The Man In The Arena”, one of Jordan’s favourite motivational pieces.

It states that ‘the credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena’, a feeling that the field of The 150th Open will surely know when they take on the historic links of the Old Course.

The film is the culmination of 150 days of content making up The Journey series. As well as a piece of content on every Open, every day on our social channels, we also have The Journey Timeline where you can explore The Open’s illustrious history.
