Esteemed coach reflects on 'special' Open memories

Phil Kenyon with Henrik Stenson, a player he helped to Open glory in 2016

One Club members can now receive exclusive tips from Phil Kenyon, the specialist putting coach who has helped a host of major champions including world number one Scottie Scheffler.

To mark the launch of his coaching videos on R&A TV, Kenyon sat down for an interview with One Club – The R&A’s free-to-join membership initiative.

Asked to name his favourite golfing memory, Kenyon picked out three highlights - success as a player at the World Student Games, visits to various Ryder Cups and his role in helping multiple players to victories at The Open.

“I’ve got some great memories from The Open throughout the years,” said Kenyon.

“Darren Clarke (in 2011), Henrik Stenson (in 2016), Francesco Molinari (in 2018) - I worked with them when they all won, so that was great.

“The Open is pretty special and to be involved with winners is fantastic.

“As a child, I dreamed of playing in The Open. I never made it, but to work with players who are participating and then for them to win, they’re special memories.”
