Marcus Plunkett will make his major championship debut at The 154th Open at Royal Birkdale after securing his place through Final Qualifying at Dundonald Links.
The American, who described John Daly as the greatest athlete on earth, played college golf at the United States Military Academy at West Point before serving five years as a transportation officer in the US Army, including deployments in South Korea, Colorado and Afghanistan.
Plunkett was part of the Army team that won the 2016 Patriot League Championship and he was named the 2013 Patriot League Rookie of the Year.
He returned to competitive golf towards the end of his military career, turning professional in 2021 and has since played on the Korn Ferry Tour.
