Sam Burns finished runner-up at the 2026 US Open, 12 months on from holding the 54-hole lead and coming in a tie for seventh.
Burns, who also recorded a top ten finish at the Masters earlier this year, made his second Ryder Cup appearance when he was part of Keegan Bradley's USA team at Bethpage Black in September. His first Ryder Cup in Rome came shortly after victory in the 2023 WGC-Dell Match Play – his fifth success on the PGA Tour.
He played his first Open at Royal St George's in 2021 and the same year managed his maiden Tour victory at the Valspar Championship, where a second round 63 helped him to a three-stroke win.
By adding the Sanderson Farms Championship later the same year, he was quickly into the world’s top 10. He moved back there with a successful defence of the Valspar the following year before capturing the Charles Schwab Challenge with a seven-shot last-day comeback and play-off win over Scottie Scheffler.
Burns overcame Scheffler again in the semi-finals of the Match Play and then defeated 2022 Open runner-up Cameron Young to take the title.
