Pulkkanen storms into the lead in Joburg
After a thunderstorm brought an untimely end to the second round of the Joburg Open, 19 players are set to return to Randpark Golf Club on Saturday morning to complete their day’s work.
The leading three who finish in the top ten and ties and who are not already exempt will earn places in The 147th Open at Carnoustie come Sunday.
In Contention to Qualify
Tapio Pulkkanen -14 (64)
Shubhankar Sharma -13 (61)
Erik van Rooyen -12 (67)
Quote of the Day: Erik van Rooyen
"A spot in The Open is definitely something to play for. It's in the back of your mind. Who wouldn't want to play in The Open Championship?"
Shunhankar Sharma’s not only recorded a career low round with a ten-under-par 61 on the Bushwillow course, but now lays claim to the lowest recorded round on the Asian Tour this year. The highly regarded young Indian golfer now sits in second place with his “dream” of playing at The Open still very much alive.
One to Watch
Finland’s Tapio Pulkkanen was in scintillating form ashe charged to a flawless eight-under-par 64 to total 14-under and take a one-shot lead into the weekend at Randpark Golf Club. The 27-year-old claimed his Tour card by winning last season's Road to Oman and, while he missed the cut at the UBS Hong Kong Open, he now stands a real chance of claiming his maiden European Tour victory.
