Playing in his first Open since 2017 after taking the second of four spots on offer at the 36-hole Final Qualifying event at Fairmont St Andrews on June 28.

Has previously survived the qualifier at Royal Cinque Ports and Woburn.First tried to qualify for The Open when he was 15, but was 33 when he finally made it a year after spending 10 months out of the game with a ruptured disc in his back.

Has also qualified for two US Opens, finishing joint 36th at Torrey Pines in 2008.

As an amateur was English, Scottish and Welsh stroke play champion and in 2005 part of the Britain and Ireland Walker Cup beaten by one point in Chicago.

Has since had three Challenge Tour victories, two of them in his first full season as a professional, and has a best finish on the DP World Tour of second in the 2010 St Omer Open, but is perhaps best remembered for a course record 63 during the 2008 PGA Championship at Wentworth.

“This is my second Open at St Andrews,” he said. “To play in any Open there is special, but the 150th is extremely special.”
