Won his first major title in the 2020 US Open at feared Winged Foot, posting a closing 67 – the best round of the day by three – to turn a two-stroke deficit into a six-shot victory.

Won his first major title in the 2020 US Open at Winged Foot, posting a closing 67 – the best round of the day by three – to turn a two-stroke deficit into a six-shot victory.

Bulked himself up during the coronavirus lockdown and appeared capable of overpowering any course, yet his short game was much-improved too and that showed again when he pipped Lee Westwood to the 2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational for his eighth PGA Tour title.

Earned his second Ryder Cup cap later the same season and last July posted his first top-10 finish in The Open.

DeChambeau first came to global attention in 2014 at the world amateur team championship, where his 11-birdie 61 in the third round was a tournament record.

He then joined Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Ryan Moore as the only men to win the American college title and US Amateur Championship and also in 2015 was unbeaten in the Walker Cup at Royal Lytham.

Was top amateur in coming joint 21st at the 2016 Masters and two years later captured the first two legs of the FedEx Cup play-offs, making him an obvious wild card pick for the Ryder Cup in Paris.
