Marco Penge earns Royal Birkdale place with victory in Spain

Marco Penge waves after winning the Open de España presented by Madrid to qualify for The 154th Open.

Marco Penge qualified for The 154th Open following his triumph at the Open de España presented by Madrid.

The Englishman earned his place at Royal Birkdale after a play-off victory over Daniel Brown in the DP World Tour event at Club de Camp Villa, Madrid, on 12 October, 2025.

One qualifying place was available as part of The Open Qualifying Series (OQS), and victory was enough for Penge to secure his fourth appearance at golf’s original championship next summer.

Qualification for The 154th Open can be earned through a number of different pathways open to golfers across the globe.

The Japan Open Golf Championship presents the next opportunity through OQS, with one place available at the event which runs from 16 to 19 October.
