Birdied the last three holes to win the 36-hole Final Qualifying competition at St Annes Old Links, his rounds of 66 and 65 giving him a 13-under-par total for a one-stroke victory over amateur Sam Bairstow and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano.
The Leeds-based professional – he plays out of Howley Hall – is a cousin of Danny Denison, who competed in the 2006 Open at Hoylake won by Tiger Woods. He is also a good friend of Marcus Armitage, winner of last month’s Porsche European Open and part of the line-up at Royal St George’s as well.
