Won July 2018's Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open after a European Tour record-equalling closing round of 60 at Gullane.

Brandon Stone

Not even in the field for the following week’s Open at Carnoustie after falling from 67th in the world to 371st in the space of 17 months, he was chasing one of three Qualifying Series spots, but following eight birdies and an eagle he hit his approach to seven feet on the last and would have achieved the magic mark of 59 if he had holed the putt.

Sadly, it curled a fraction wide and instead it was Oliver Fisher two months later at the Portugal Masters who became the first to shoot 59 on the circuit.

For Stone it was his third Tour victory but first outside his home country.

In 2016 he won the BMW South African Open by two and then stormed to a seven-stroke success at the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

By topping the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit, the former University of Texas player earned himself a return to The Open, having made his debut at Royal Troon in 2016. Also competed at the Olympics that year, partnering Jaco van Zyl.
