As part of The Open Qualifying Series two Royal Portrush places were available and with winner Jazz Janewattananond and third-placed Chan Kim already exempt it came down to the world rankings of Jang and Minjun Kim.
He stood 359th, while Kim was 2,066th. His appearance at Hoylake was one of the bonuses of winning on the Japan Tour that season at the Gateway to The Open Mizuno Open, where he finished three clear of Juvic Pagunsan.
“Back then I didn’t really know what to expect from links golf, but I am sure that the experience will count in may favour at Royal Portrush and I’m really looking forward to it,” he said. “I’m also looking forward to playing in front of the Irish fans, who are very passionate about golf and who hopefully will give me lots of support.” He was also the winner of the 2015 Korean PGA Championship, closing with a 63 to triumph by four, and in March was joint third at the Singha Thailand Masters.
