Plays his first major championship after a tie for third on June 2 in the Japan Tour’s Mizuno Open, part of The Open Qualifying Series with four Royal Portrush spots up for grabs.
Began the last round in joint 12th place, but a four under par 68 meant he matched his best performance on the circuit so far. Began the year by coming joint sixth on home soil at the Boonchu Ruangkit Championship and a week later tied for seventh in the SMBC Singapore Open co-sanctioned by the Asian and Japanese tours. After missed cuts on his next two starts he then produced six top 10s in eight tournaments. Having entered the year 639th on the world rankings it all served to take into the top 300.
He is a two-time winner on the China Tour – those successes came in 2014 and 2016 – and also three years ago was runner-up by a stroke to Scott Hend at the Asian Tour’s Queen’s Cup. “I am excited to have qualified - it feels like my first ever win,” he said. “I had a chance to qualify at the SMBC Singapore Open and the Diamond Cup, but just missed out.
